About Curlew Charters, Inc.

The 82′ schooner Curlew was built from the imagination of the legendary American boat designer John Alden. Built to fly, she won many races up and down the east coast in the 20’s and 30’s. Curlew has since been totally refitted and restored to the highest standards of performance and luxury.

Curlew sets sail out of beautiful Dana Point harbor to cruise the picturesque Coastline of Southern California.

Robert A. Harrison was raised on the shores of Lake Ontario, boating has been a way of life for most of his life. He has owned five sailboats in a continuum that spans his entire adult life to date. Interestingly though what stimulated his current endeavor with Curlew was born out of career of mentoring within the walls of corporate America, a place where likewise he has spent most of his adult life.

Curlew Charters, Inc. a California corporation was formed in June of 2002, preceding the July acquisition of the Schooner Curlew. Fulfilling a 10 year dream, Captain Bob Harrison set out to create a business that would not only allow him to share his love for sailing and the sea with others, but play a part in maintaining a historical vessel representative of the Classic days of Sailing. Additionally, Bob’s vision includes the decks of Curlew for team building and other personal and corporate growth workshops.

Bob has held a USCG Masters License for over fifteen years and has owned sailboats continuously for some 45 years. Curlew represents the fifth yacht he has owned, and the third sailed in the Pacific. In terms of sailing experience, in addition to his 35 years on the waters of Southern California, Bob has sailed the waters of Pacific North West, raced on San Francisco Bay, and spent a few summers early on exploring Lake Ontario where he learned to sail.
